Today, we often hear about the importance of finding and
following our passion. At Sedona Spa, we are extremely
fortunate to have found ours. Very simply, it is to serve and
please you, our client, by providing unique and beneficial

face, body and hair care products over the past eight years
through the synergy of specialized knowledge, the blending of

selecting only animal-free ingredients, creating products that
are cruelty-free and using materials that are environmentally
sensitive. We hope you enjoy these products as much as we do.

Corporate citizenship is an important element of Sedona
Spa’s company philosophy. We strongly believe in making a
difference for our community and for communities at large.
Sedona Spa products are cruelty-free and created with
animal-free ingredients. We as a company take great pride in
teaming up with and supporting organizations that are
inspirational, courageous and dedicated to making a difference
for the planet as a whole. In keeping with this mindset, one
of our corporate partners is The Animal Protection Institute
(API). API is a national animal advocacy nonprofit
organization. Founded in 1968, API's mission is to advocate
for the protection of animals from cruelty and exploitation.
When interested individuals and members of API order Sedona
Spa products by clicking through the API website, we make a
contribution to API to further their mission. For more
information, visit their website at www.api4animals.org.
Recently Sedona Spa participated with the Arizona Cat
Assistance Team to conduct a Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR)
Program at our facility in Phoenix, Arizona. We were
successful in trapping, sterilizing and then returning a total
of 16 cats and kittens! TNR is the least costly and most
effective method of addressing the overpopulation of
free-roaming, primarily feral cats in our communities. The
cats are humanely trapped, sterilized and then returned to
their outdoor habitat where their caregivers continue to
provide them with food and water. Why TNR works:
- Ends the breeding cycle and stabilizes the homeless cat population humanely.
- Is more effective and less expensive than attempts at extermination.
- Eliminates or reduces offensive behaviors such as spraying, yowling and fighting.
- Reduces the number of kittens flooding our shelters.
- Is the humane and responsible thing to do.

education leaders, Starshine is a model for the future of

Botanical of the Quarter - Prickly Pear Cactus (Opuntia tuna) |
|
|
|
Prickly pears, classified in the subgenus Opuntia,
typically grow with flat, rounded segments that are armed with
two types of spines; large, smooth, fixed spines and small,
almost hair like spines called glochids that easily detach
from the plant.
The flat fleshy pads look like large leaves. These are
actually modified branches or stems that serve for water
storage, photosynthesis and flower production. The large
spines found on the pads are modified leaves growing from
tubercles, small, wart- like projections. Members of the
Opuntia genus are unique because of their clusters of the
fine, tiny, barbed spines called glochids. Found just above
the cluster of regular spines, glochids are yellow or red in
color and detach easily from the pads. Glochids are often
difficult to see and remove from the skin.
Many types of prickly pear can grow into dense, tangled
structures and are the only type of cactus normally found in
the eastern United States. These types of cactus are found in
all of the deserts of the American Southwest. They are the
most cold tolerant of the cacti, extending north into southern
Canada. Most require coarse, well-drained soil in dry, rocky
flats of slopes. Others prefer mountain pinyon/juniper forests
or rocky slopes in mountain foothills.
Most prickly pear cactus have yellow, red or purple
flowers, even among the same species. They vary in height from
less than a foot to 6 or 7 feet. The fruits of most prickly
pears are edible and sold in stores under the name “tuna”. The
fruit needs to be peeled carefully to remove small spines on
the outer skin before consumption. Prickly pear pads are also
cooked and eaten as a vegetable. The gel like liquid of a
prickly pear cactus can be used like a conditioner for the
hair.
Two Sedona Spa products contain Opuntia tuna (Prickly Pear
Cactus), our Mountain Moisture Shampoo and Mountain Moisture
Conditioner! Find out more....
